We are Adanu Habobo, based in Vancouver, BC (Canada).  We are a diverse group of people who strive to share our love and knowledge of the traditional music and dance of Ghana, West Africa. We accept new members on a rolling basis so if you are interested, let us know.

Adanu Habobo's co-director and co-founder Dr. Kofi Gbolonyo is being celebrated at Capilano University. Adanu Habobo will perform in addition to the CapU C Band which Kofi directs, playing a mix of original West African-inspired music, highlife hits, and arrangements of traditional music.

This will be the first Adanu Habobo show since 2020...just before "you know what". Very excited to be performing for/with the Ghanaians of BC. The concert will also feature CapU African Jazz Ensemble (led by Kofi Gbolonyo) and some spicy (and oh-so-delicious) Ghanaian food will also be on sale. For his concert we will welcome my good friend and supreme dancer Awal Alhassan and his equally-talented wife Sheimawu Abubakari, and for the first time a very special guest in master drummer/dancer Dr. Sylvanus Kwashie Kuwor!

A extravaganza of song, drum and dance with over 60 performers (!). Adanu will be collaborating with members of Rhythm n Roots who will sing traditional songs to accompany the drummers and dancers, giving a complete picture of this music. Both groups will also perform some of their own material.

This will be an amazing evening of African music. Adanu will be joined by an awesome dancer, Awal Alhassan, who will be arriving fresh from Ghana. Also joining Adanu Habobo will be a 4-piece horn section that will be playing some traditional songs to accompany the dances!

Zhambai Trio will be bringing sounds old and new from Zimbabwe and there may be another special guest joining the event as well.


And to open the show we'll have Juno-award winning Guinean guitarist extraordinaire Alpha Yaya Diallo and kora virtuoso Bojou Cissoko (from Senegal).
